A Slice Of Heaven

A small zebra standing in the road, head down

low, as if contemplating life, next to a motorist

who waits for him to move and he does not, an

elephant with a little one, then several elephant

mothers with their playing kids, several giraffes

with beautiful markings on their skins, then two

 

Baboons quietly enjoying life sitting on the tar of

the road, a monkey also quite content, crocodiles

lying in the sun and hippos practicing their fighting

skills, two lions walking away from us and a hyena

running away from the remains of a dead giraffe -

vultures eating greedily from what is left between

 

Enormous breastbones, the delicate tread of the

fawn, the Maraboe and Storks on the riverside, the

hippo laughing with his grunting in the river flowing

right in front of us, birdsong in the quiet afternoon,

this is a slice of heaven, I think…
