See My Melody

A wonderful new rhyme to learn - Mokgadi,
Mimi, Mankidi and Thandi, sitting near me in
cubicles formed by loose screens, expressing
righteous indignation when I continuously ask
their names, so I wrote down a melody putting
them in the order in which they appear in the
open-plan office: Mokgadi, Mimi, Mankidi and

Thandi; like Maria teaching do re me by singing
a descriptive line for every note:  first Mokgadi
face friendly and familiar, giving me a hug, Mimi
voice and smile filling the building, then Mankidi
mirth in undetermined rhythm, Thandi, looking
shy as a smile lights up her eyes; see my melody
singing softly: Mokgadi, Mimi, Mankidi and Thandi
