I Wanted It To Last Forever

[Diary Notes]

We had to move out for two nights then we

returned to this beautiful site, the river view

where the sky is blue and wide & the golden

sun illuminates trees and grass with an inner

light which turns to a softer glow as the sun

is sinking low, cicadas provide background

Song with shimmering high trills - filling the

air with sound, the tame little doe has come

back, treading delicately as she feeds - and

I have to roam alone since my hippo friend

never returned & the glow is intensifying as

the sun is sinking lower, I marvel at a gilded

World where birdsong adds a touch of class

to the evening serenade, the doe’s beautiful

dark almond eyes shine in the light of the sun

while a lonely crocodile is sunning himself on

a far-off sandbank and I delight in the beauty

of this golden evening in number seventeen

Where hippos keep grunting in laughter at us,

later we see hippos lazily lounging around in

Sunset Lake where the crocodiles believe they

should form a static tableau, happy to remain

immobile indefinitely…

Later:

At the lakeside restaurant the river is having

a conversation with the sky, that is clear, and

a hippo is traversing the water quietly; we are

seated high above the river watching while the

conversation between river and sky is winding

down since all the light is concentrating on the

Side of the setting sun and the river is losing its

pretty pink hue until the water is a soft shade of

blue, these river talks are coming to an end and

a Cheshire-Cat-smile moon lights the night sky;

but I am wrong: the conversation is going on -

the water is still reflecting the light sky against

Which the landmass is etched like a thick line of

darkness increasing, this beautiful day is coming

to an end when I wanted it to last forever..
